The multiplicand can be an even number or an odd number. An even number is one which ends in 0,2,4,6 or 8. An even number is always divisible by 2.

When we multiply an even number by 5:

- The result always ends in 0
- The leading digits of the result will be half of the number being multiplied (multiplicand).

When we multiply an odd number by 5:

- The result always ends in 5.
- The leading digits of the result will be half of the first digit less 1. (Remember to subtract 1 first before halving!)

Note that we can apply this trick to any number, no matter how large. For instance, to multiply 1234 by 5:
